Why attend VMworld during financial crisis?

Anyone with any interest in Virtualization has his or her personal reason to (want to) go to VMworld this year in San Fransisco. Unfortunately, the current economic situation, and a lot of companies cutting budget and even laying of employees, doesn’t allow a lot of people to actually go to this great event. Whether you are a system engineer who’s just starting to learn about virtualization, or a more experienced engineer, a consultant, maybe an IT manager or a sales manager or even a financial officer. You all can benefit from attending VMworld. But in the end, somewhere down the line, the guy who’s deciding if you can go or not, wants to know what’s in it for him and/or his company? “What’s the return on investment of you going to VMworld?”

And my answer is, as a good consultant ;-) , it depends… … Continue Reading

Win a VirtualFuture.info polo-shirt!

My colleague and I are getting ready for VMworld and as you know we will be blogging at this event. To promote our blog, we will be wearing unique VirtualFuture.info polo-shirts. On the back of the shirts, we want to put a funny slogan and maybe you can help us out. Think of a funny slogan that has to do with virtualization and win a VirtualFuture.info polo-shirt! The best 3 slogans will win a shirt and the competition ends August 31 2008 at midnight (CET).

Here are some examples:

“I blog on virtualfuture.info and all I got was this lousy shirt”
“I got this Hypervishirt from VirtualFuture.info”
“High Available shirt”

The Virtualization Administrator is dead !

Today I stumbled upon an article of Mark Gaydos on TripWire.org. In this article he describes a conversation he had with an Industry Analyst concerning the future of Virtualization Administration. What it basically comes down to is that in a couple of years Virtualization will be commodity and all aspects will be divided to separate departments/disciplines. The department networking will be concerned with the virtual networks, the department security will be concerned with all the virtual infrastructure security and so on.

This might sound far away but I also think … Continue Reading

New Microsoft virtualization training and certification program

At Microsoft Tech-Ed 2008 a new training and certification program was announced. It looks like Microsoft is taking this virtualization-thing seriously ;-) .

A prime example of a cutting-edge technology with tremendous potential to cut costs and increase efficiency is virtualization.

Microsoft Learning has created a series of training and Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist (MCTS) certification programs that focus on Hyper-V and the forthcoming Windows Server Virtual Machine Manager, both of which are part of Microsoft’s virtualization strategy.

Available later this year.

InstallFree release date revealed

Today I spoke to someone of InstallFree (who, in my eyes, use revolutionary application virtualization techniques) about their Bridge and Desktop products.

The release date of their first product, the InstallFree Bridge was the 7th of April this year. More information about the InstallFree Bridge, like DataSheets, WhitePapers and Business Cases can be found here.

But today I heared that the release date of their second (full blown) Application Virtualization product, known as the InstallFree Desktop, is set to September this year.
