My first reaction was a pretty big laughter when I read the article that stated that SAP is going to use XenServer to virtualize about 500 servers. The laughter is, as Alessandro states, because of the fact that during Paul Maritz’ keynote at VMworld Europe 2009 in Cannes 2 weeks ago, SAP got over 30 minutes of (my valuable !!!) time for a (pretty boring) presentation about what amazing stuff they were doing with VMware.

Just now the Break-out sessions from VMworld Europe 2009 in Cannes were made available on-line here for those who were there, or at VMworld 2008 @ Las Vegas. Just login with your VMworld account and enjoy. Missed it but are curious to what was presented ? You can buy yourself a VMworld Subscription for $699,= for one year.

For me personally one of the most interesting sessions was the “Managing VMware with Powershell” and that session is filmed completely by Eric Sloof and he posted this on his blog : http://www.ntpro.nl/blog/archives/990-The-Complete-Managing-VMware-With-PowerShell-Video.html so that’s freely available to anyone, nice work Eric !

Well, just take a look at our short flip-video impression and keep an eye out to Eric Sloof’s blog: he has got some nice (really nice) footage he’s going to post tonight. Here is our video: Read the rest of this entry »

Today I attended 3 session related to VDI, so my brain is now filled with information regarding virtual desktops, virtual applications and user workspace- or profile-management. I still need to sort all this information out to write one big or maybe a couple of smaller articles concerning design considerations, VDI server sizing, security impact, remote display protocol, performance requirements and future promises. But before I start on this article(s), here is a short overview of the sessions I attended today: Read the rest of this entry »
