posted by Wouter Heije
May 12, 2009

After a brilliant week in Vegas I took the time to read over my notes and get you a summary of all announcements made on Citrix Synergy 2009. Up front it didn’t seem to be an event of big announcements but this turned out different. I thought they would only release the new Citrix Receiver for the Iphone (Which they did), but below you’ll find a summary of all newly announced products and upgrades.

Citrix announces Dazzle!

posted by Wouter Heije

Last week Citrix announced Dazzle on Synergy. Unfortunately I haven’t been able to post about this matter in Vegas due to technical issues. Anyhow Dazzle will take application delivery to the next stage. Earlier last week Mark Templeton showed a slide with the four phases for data center improvement and defined their delivery center being with products available now moving to phase 3 automation. Dazzle will take the data center further into phase 3.

XenDesktop 3 Top 10 Architecture Tips

May 7, 2009

yesterday I attended the”Citrix XenDesktop 3 Architecture” technical session. This session was a very useful session because it gives a lot of useful tips to design a XenDesktop environment.

I’ll give you a top ten of tips for using in a design:

1 – Make sure you’re using Provisioning Server (included in Platinum edition) to save on storage costs, and desktop maintenance costs

2 – Invest in solid hardware capable of running a Server virtualization platform (XenServer – preferred ;) , VMware, Hyper-V) with sufficient resources (Lots of memory and CPU)

3 – Calculate up-front how many users are using a complete desktop ate the same time Read the rest of this entry »

Citrix Receiver for Iphone officially released

posted by Wouter Heije

As we suspected Citrix officially released the first official version of the Iphone XenApp receiver on Synergy. A lot of demo-ing is done here at Citrix Synergy. I have to admit I downloaded an earlier release and tested a lot with this version. The new version is more stable, is able to make use of the new HDX technology for better multimedia performance, and most of all once installed is easy to configure and use.

A bunch of links regarding the Citrix receiver for Iphone are these:

I hope everyone is as enthusiastic as I am about this receiver because it makes my life a lot easier.

Citrix Education announces upgrade Exams!

Yeah Finally it happened! Yesterday at the CCIA, CCEA happy hour Citrix announced the coming of two new upgrade paths for CCEA and CCIA. In the past you had t take all new exams to hold you status now for the CCEA you’ll only have to take on exam to upgrade to XenApp 5 en for the CCIA two exams will be required (which is a lot better than 7 ;) ).

Additionally I spoke to Kpayah Tamba he’s one of the senior developers op new citrix exams and he promissed me all new exams will be like the XenDesktop, XenServer and Xenapp exams. This means they are more focused on the usage of the product instead of asking facts you can look up (like which port number is used for… although some CCEA I know still think 2598 is the ICA port;))

Later on I spoke to Julieann Scalisi who is Managing Director Worldwide education, and she told me the course for XenApp Advanced administration remains a requirement for the CCAA certification, in addition she told me this course will even learn the biggest Citrix Cracks new things. So I invited her to join me on a course in ford lauderdale and she accepted :)

By the way I’ve been interviewed for Citrix TV regarding Citrix Education, I will post the link as soon as it’s available.
