Announced: Hyper-V R2 embedded in servers (boot-from-flash)
Yesterday Microsoft announced through their Windows Virtualization Team Blog that Microsoft’s Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 will support boot-from-flash. This means that they give the OEM vendors the possibility to suplly Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 as an embeded virtualization solution just like it is happening now with embedded versions of VMware VI3.5 and Citrix XenServer 5.

Blueprint for Optimizing Citrix XenApp High Availability
Marathon Technologies released a couple of whitepapers and a blueprint for optimizing Citrix XenApp High Availability. As you know, the technology for HA in Xenserver is actually from Marathon and you can also enable Fault tolerance with Marathon EverRun VM. These documents aren’t about Xenserver, but “a set of planning and implementation tools designed to help companies ensure high availability of applications delivered with Citrix® XenApp™ more efficiently and cost effectively“.
The documents are a good read if you want to learn more about XenApp and about how you can protect each component of XenApp.
Why vCenter server should be free
Do you remember the days when VMware P2V Assistant costs $20.000? And a couple of years ago, the product was suddenly available for free? And what about the introduction of the free ESXi? VMware’s hypervisor available for free all of a sudden? Well, this is exactly what I think will happen to vCenter Server. Hyper-V Server 2008 R2 RTM: finally LiveMigration
As expected Microsoft just announced the RTM release of Microsoft Windows Server 2008 R2 and the freeware product Hyper-V Server 2008 R2.

By releasing R2 with V-MotionLiveMigration Microsoft finally has listened to their customers and thereby makes their product more “Enterprise Ready“. With their slogan “We believe everyone should have access to high performance hypervisor based virtualization. Period.” they are hoping to make a giant leap in virtualization market share.

VMware vSphere VCP 4 beta exam
Today I had the opportunity to take the VCP 4 beta exam. 270 questions in 4,5 hours. When I was finished I still had more than 1 hour left and I even took a 10 minute break in between. After I finished I decided to review all the questions, trying to remember the question I wasn’t sure about. Just in case I fail and have to retake the test.
