If I understand correctly, VM View 3 due next year comprises both VDI and ThinApp. Having said that, I agree that they are different and are considered at different times for most businesses. We are looking at application virtualisation well before we look at the desktop, because you won't get the benefits of desktop virtualisation as quickly without dealing with application problems first. Server consolidation will give companies the quickest ROI, so that will be where the money is in 2009. It is harder to come up with real numbers on how much you can save with application virtualization.
